August Lip Favourites!
Because August basically means that Fall is coming (my favourite season of the year) I tend to wear lip colours that are a bit darker but still neutral at the same time. This means looking for true mauves, mauve browns, grey toned browns, terracotta reds as well mauve purples! I’ve also been obsessed with metallic liquid lipsticks so I picked 2 of my favourites for August!
This month is probably my favourite lip post I have written so far because there are just so many brands that came out with amazing liquid lipsticks this month! If you want to know my top picks for August, keep on reading!
1. Blinking Beaute: Levres Collection Liquid Lipstick in Mo-Del ($18 USD)
I raved a lot about this when I posted swatches of this gorgeous shade on the Tazelbox Instagram but I had to mention it again! Mo-Del from the Blinking Beaute Levres liquid lipstick collection is my favourite from the 4 shades that I got! I got the shades Mo-Del, Twiggy, Fatale and Femme and they are beautiful colours with a consistent mousy formula.
Mo-Del is my favourite shade because its such a beautiful mauve pink colour – and it doesn’t look too bright on me. It looks just right; with the perfect balance of pink and brown undertones to it. Also, it has small gold sparkles; which makes it even more unique! I think this colour is the perfect light mauve pink shade for anyone with yellow undertones, neutral undertones, olive skin tones and medium skin tones. The pop of colour is doesn’t look too crazy and you can wear it during the day or at night; and it looks good with any make up look!
I also love the formula from this collection! The Blinking Beaute liquid lipsticks are definitely THE best mousy formula I have ever tried. I’m generally not a fan of mousy formulas because every brand that I have tried just felt weird on my lips and also transferred a lot. However, the Blinking Beaute liquid lipsticks do not transfer AT ALL! The applicator makes it so easy to put on the product; and the formula makes it easy to line your lips without over lining too much. However, it still creates a perfect pout for you and it dries fast! The formula feels so comfortable on the lips; it literally feels like you are not wearing nothing. These lipsticks do not feel dry at all and it lasts through meals and through a whole day of wear. Unlike the other mousy formulas I’ve tried, these dry to a complete matte finish that’s comfortable at the same time!Get it here!
2. Kylie Cosmetics: Kylie Lip Kit in Ginger ($29 USD for the lip liner and liquid lipstick)
Kylie Jenner did it again! Ginger is one of her latest shades from her summer surprises collection and I love this terracotta red-ish brown. It’s a close dupe to Ashton by Anastasia Beverly Hills and Daddy by Give Me Glow Cosmetics is a dupe for both Ginger and Ashton; but I just prefer the formula from Kylie Cosmetics and I like that it includes a lip liner. Also, I found that Ginger dried down to more of a brown toned terracotta shade and I like the way Ginger looked on me more.
Ginger is probably my second favourite shade from all of Kylie Lip Kits (Candy K is my favourite) because Kylie Jenner did a great job in perfecting the formula of this shade. It has the same formula and consistency of Candy K and Dolce K; and it doesn’t get patchy like Kourt K does.
I am naturally not a big fan of red liquid lipsticks – so my red tone lipstick of choice is usually a terracotta, brown toned red. I just find that this shade looks more flattering on my skin tone and you can still wear it during the day or at night whereas with red I would only wear it for a night time look. I am a sucker for these kind of terracotta, brown toned reds so I like to try this shade from a variety of brands; and I think Kylie Cosmetics has the best formula out of all the brands that offer this shade. If you’re looking for a new Fall lip colour to wear, I highly recommend trying Ginger from Kylie Cosmetics- it’s the perfect Fall pop of colour that everyone needs!Get it here!
3. Colourpop: Ultra Satin Lip in Point Zero ($6 USD)
Point Zero from the new Colourpop x Kathleen Lights collection is my favourite grey toned brown EVER! I love grey toned browns but a lot of brands make me look very washed out. However, Point Zero doesn’t! Point Zero is definitely the most unique shade from the collection. Point Zero gives you such a nice grunge lip – very Fall and very 90’s. Point Zero is a really unique shade of brown; I personally haven’t seen anything similar! Also, it’s a colour that you can manipulate – if you want it to look more mauve, it can easily be mixed with a light pink nude like Crush by Anastasia Beverly Hills.
Also, the Ultra Satin Lips formula is my favourite formula that Colourpop has. It’s not drying and you are able to mix and layer this formula. This formula doesn’t get patchy and even though it transfers it stays on your lips and looks more matte throughout the day. I never came across a formula like the Ultra Satin Lips so I definitely recommend Point Zero if you’re looking for a cool toned brown that is perfect for Fall! Also, it looks great on a variety of skin tones – it doesn’t look exactly the same on every skin tone but it looks very unique and it doesn’t look super dark like a lot of grey tone browns do!Get it here!
4. Huda Beauty: Liquid to Matte Lipstick in Muse ($20 USD)
Before I got the Huda Beauty Liquid to Matte Lipsticks, Huda herself made these lipsticks sound very promising. And believe me, the product is exactly the way she described it. The Huda Beauty Liquid to Matte Lipsticks really dry down to a matte finish, doesn’t transfer, is very hydrating, doesn’t get dry and doesn’t get patchy even after 4 coats on your lips!
It was hard to pick a favourite from the amazing colours that Huda released but I picked Muse as this month’s favourite! Muse is my favourite mauve pink-ish purple of all time because its hard for me to find a mauve purple that wont wash me out – and Muse doesn’t wash me out at all! I don’t need to wear any lip liner with this shade and it looks very day time friendly. Muse has been my go to shade for when I feel like wearing a cooler mauve shade as opposed to a warmer mauve.
Huda released a very versatile collection of liquid lipsticks – so there is a colour for everyone! More importantly, I highly recommend that you try the Huda Beauty liquid lipsticks because the formula is unlike any that I have tried!Get it here!
5. Ofra Cosmetics: Long Lasting Metalic Liquid Lipstick in Versailles ($19 USD)
I have been obsessed with metallic lips lately and have tried a few different brands. However, I think Ofra Cosmetics created the best metallic liquid lipsticks in terms of the consistency of formula for all of their 3 shades that are offered in their summer collection. Its hard to create metallic liquid lipsticks because the sparkles and glitter often make your lips feel rough; but the metallic liquid lipsticks from Ofra Cosmetics feel smooth and soft.
I usually line my lips with a brown lip liner before I put on any metallic liquid lipstick, but I didn’t have to with the Ofra Cosmetics metallic lipsticks. They feel very comfortable on the lips, they don’t transfer, they last for a good 8 hours and doesn’t feel dry. I’m not a big fan of the regular matte Ofra Cosmetics liquid lipsticks so I was pleasantly surprised with the formula of the metallic lips.
I have been wearing Versailles whenever I feel like wearing a light metallic lip this month – it’s the perfect light gold because it doesn’t wash you out and it really has the metallic effect as opposed to having the glitter effect. It’s also a great lip topper to make your liquid lip metallic! I believe that 3 shades (Versailles, Monaco and Santorini) are summer limited edition shades, so grab one while they’re still in stock!Get it here!
6. Cryptic Cosmetics: Liquid Lipstick in Essex ($17 USD)
I am absolutely in love with the shades that Cryptic Cosmetics came out with! My favourite from this collection is definitely Essex. Essex is the perfect mauve for me. It’s the colour and formula that I have been searching for and it looks exactly like the way I wanted it to look! I can’t tell you enough how many times I’ve tried to look for a mauve like this that has a great formula and can be worn during the day or at night. A lot of the times when I find a mauve it either looks to light or too dark on me; or when I do find the right mauve (like Lolita) the formula just doesn’t work for me.
But, Essex looks just right on me and the formula is one of the best liquid lip formulas I have tried in a really long time. It’s a less drying version of the Kylie Lip Kits; and the 3 colours I got are consistent with none of them being patchy. Its not as hydrating as the Huda Beauty liquid lipstick formula, but it dries more matte than Huda Beauty. It feels very comfortable on the lips and it stays in place even after you’ve eaten (it only fades a little bit if you’ve had oily food) but not to a point where you need to reapply or touch it up.
If you have an yellow undertone, an olive skin tone or medium skin tone – this is the perfect mauve for you! Its currently sold out but I’ll keep you posted on our Tazelbox Twitter and Instagram on the restock date!Get it here!
7. Colourpop: Ultra Metallic Lip in DM ($6 USD)
The Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip in DM is the perfect bronze metallic lipstick to wear when you feel like wearing a bold metallic lip! DM is a deep bronze metallic shade and it looks so good, especially when you’re tanned. I know there has been mixed reviews on the Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lips and I do agree that some of the metallic shades are not as pigmented as others. However, I do think that the darker colours (including DM) has a consistent formula. I will definitely say that the applicator for this collection can be much better; but I do like that darker shades in this formula really stays on your lips.
DM is a shade that I haven’t seen other brands come out with, making it very unique! I also like that the darker colours are really easy to apply and doesn’t require more than 2 layers. These lipsticks don’t feel drying and they don’t get patchy; probably because they are a mousy formula. DM is transfer proof and it spices up any look – I love wearing it when I have brown wing liner and bronzed skin make up look on! If you’re looking for an affordable bold metallic liquid lipstick, I would definitely recommend DM from Colourpop.Get it here!
And this is it for my August lip favourites! I hope you enjoyed the versatile selection I had this month and gave these a try! Stay tuned for September’s lip favourites and my Fall lippie must haves!
