July Lip Favourites
Another month, another lip favourites post! This month I included a variety of liquid lipsticks that range in colour because my June lip favourites were very nude and brown oriented, so I decided to switch it up! Of course I still included a nude liquid lipstick, along with 2 lip liners that are highly versatile, easy to work with and gorgeous! I have been testing out a few new brands and can’t wait to share my monthly favourites from these brands! All of the products that I’m going to talk about today look amazing on a variety of skin tones as well. If you would like to see which lip products are my favorites this month, keep on reading!
1. Colourpop: Lippie Pencil in Grunge ($5 USD)
Grunge has been my absolute favourite this past month - it’s the perfect plum brown. I love this colour because it looks so cool and gives such a 90’s vibe when you wear it alone, or with its matching lippie stick. But, it’s the perfect darker lip liner to manipulate a lighter liquid lipstick to make the liquid lip shade more wearable for your skin tone.
I have beige-yellow skin so it’s often difficult for me to wear lighter nudes without it looking too bright (and sort of neon looking) on me so the Grunge lippie pencil has been an absolute life saver. Also, can we just take a minute to appreciate Colourpop’s lippie pencils?! They are THE best lip liners I have ever used. They are identical to the Kylie Lip Kit lip liners- so creamy and pigmented, making it very easy to contour and fill in your lips! My point is, you NEED Grunge in your life! It’s such a unique colour, it’s all about the 90’s feels and looks great on all skin tones!Get it here!
2. Colourpop: Lippie Pencil in Taurus ($5 USD)
Taurus became a favourite of mine the minute Kathleen Lights and Colourpop released this a few months ago. At first, I used the Taurus lippie stick a lot more than the Taurus lippie pencil even though I loved both. For some reason, I think that the lippie stick and lippie pencil didn’t match perfectly on my skin- so I was waiting to use the Taurus lippie pencil with a liquid lipstick that would match. I kind of put Taurus aside even though I loved the colour until Tansy from Colourpop’s Ultra Satin Lip collection came out and I also started using it again when I bought Cork from Dose of Colors.
Either way, I love the Taurus lippie pencil because the colour is SO unique! It quickly became my favourite shade of brown. It looks so true to colour on me, and it’s not too dark or too red. I honestly have never seen a brown shade quite like this- every brown lip liner I have tried prior to Taurus always looked too dark on me and didn’t reflect a true yellow brown.
I also love this shade because it’s hard to find dupes for it - and the formula is amazing as well. The Taurus lippie pencil pairs perfectly with Tansy and Cork- and it’s also great for contouring and mixing with a brighter liquid lipstick to tone down the brightness of the liquid lip to make it more neutral. I love mixing Taurus with lighter mauve shades to make it more muted and natural! It’s an amazing colour that everyone should try out because you can either make it pop like a bold lip colour or make it look natural with a nude liquid lip!Get it here!
3. Lipland Cosmetics: Liquid Lipstick in Fifty-Fifty (originally $18.99 now $14.24 USD)
Oh Lipland Cosmetics, why do you have to be so awesome?! I only started using the liquid lipsticks from Lipland a few weeks ago, but it’s been such a struggle to use anything else because I love their formula and colours so much! Their formula dries to a matte finish but it doesn’t feel like your lips are chapping. When I first got my order, I thought Fifty-Fifty was too bright and unnatural on me when I wore it on its own. So, the next time I used this shade, I lined and contoured my lips with the Grunge lippie pencil from Colourpop then filled in my lips with Fifty-Fifty and it looked amazing!
The darker lippie pencil made it super easy to outline my lips and make them look bigger, and Fifty-Fifty added a nice colour to my lips so that they looked poutier. Mixing with a darker lippie pencil also created a much more wearable shade of Fifty-Fifty- it was less bright and looked more toned down. It was still a light nude, but it looked more natural and fuller. Needless to say, I became obsessed with the Lipland liquid lipsticks and this lip combo! It looks great with a minimal make up look with just mascara, but it also looks great with a simple wing liner or any smokey eye look. I think everyone needs a shade like Fifty-Fifty because it’s a nude with a bit of pink and light brown undertones - it just completes any make up look.
Also, the formula is goals for sure - it’s a bit more moisturizing than the Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks (and believe me, those are my top favourites too) and it doesn’t get flakey no matter how many layers you apply. It’s naturally much pigmented but I usually put another layer on when I contour my lips with a lip liner so that everything mixes evenly - and it still doesn’t become patchy or flakey. It transfers a bit at first but not to a point where you need to reapply it - once it dries down its transfer proof. It becomes one with your lip liner and your lips and creates a perfect pout- you definitely can’t go wrong with Fifty-Fifty!Get it here!
4. Jouer Cosmetics: Liquid Lipstick in Lychee ($18 USD)
A new product that I have been using the last few weeks has been the matte lip crèmes from Jouer Cosmetics. I bought a few matte shades as well as a few of their matte metallic lip cremes, and so far I have loved all of them! My favourite lip crème shade is Lychee - it’s a lighter and pinker version of Queen B from Too Faced. It’s still a mauve, dusty rose colour but it has more pink and warm undertones, making it perfect for summer! I also really like the formula of the Jouer lip crèmes - they dry very quickly but they are not patchy.
They are a bit more drying than the Too Faced and Lipland liquid lipsticks; but it’s not something a bit of lip balm can’t fix. I like to put some lip balm on first when I begin applying my makeup. I then dust some concealer or setting powder over my lips to mute out my natural lip colour, and then apply Lychee. Lychee on its own is pinker and a bit brighter on me - so on days that I want it to be less bright on my complexion, I just contour my lips with the BFF2 lippie pencil from Colourpop then fill them in with Lychee. It lasts all day and even through food so I really like the Jouer lip crème formulas. I would definitely recommend Lychee to anyone who wants to try out Jouer Cosmetics because it’s a very staple and versatile colour!
On another note, if anyone is wondering how the Jouer metallic lip crème formulas are like, I will be doing a separate post on metallic liquid lipsticks soon- that way I can do comparisons and reviews on different brands that offer metallic liquid lipsticks.Get it here!
5. Too Faced: Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick in Queen B ($21 USD)
No surprise here that I would have another Too Faced liquid lipstick as a favourite this month! I previously mentioned that I loved the Too Faced Liquified Long Wear Matte lipsticks in my June lip favourites and this month is no different! I love the Too Faced formulas - they are not mousy, they are fluid but not too fluid to the point that the liquid is literally dripping out of the bottle and it doesn’t make applying messy. They dry to a matte finish but they feel comfortable, they aren’t drying and aren’t sticky either- and most importantly, they aren’t patchy!
I love the shade Queen B because it’s a cooler version of Stone by Dose of Colors- I love pairing this with the Grunge lippie pencil from Colourpop, the Soar lip liner from MAC or on its own! Stone often looks a bit too grey on me when I wear it on its own, so Queen B has the perfect balance of mauve pink, purple tones and grey undertones on my complexion. It’s totally different from Cool Girl from the same collection, and I love that Too Faced created such versatile colours.
If you haven’t tried the Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipsticks, I suggest that you do! For the price that you’re paying (25 USD), you’re really getting the colour pay off and quality that you paid for!Get it here!
6. Dose of Colors: Liquid Lipstick in Cork ($18 USD)
Dose of Colors is one of my favourite liquid lipstick brands. I love the colours they come out with. So, when I saw that they came out with Dessert Suede and Cork, I went to lipstick heaven! I love that brands make colours like these because they are different but they are still wearable at the same time. I was so glad that one of my favourite brands made such a nice mid toned yellow brown!
Cork is definitely my favourite colour from Dose of Colors because it such a unique brown. It’s one of the first brands to come out with a brown like this, and it looks great on so many different skin tones! I love the way it looks because it’s so versatile. Sometimes, when I feel like rocking a bold lip for an everyday look for work- this is often my go to colour because it gives me a slight pop of colour but it doesn’t look too crazy on me. It looks amazing when you want to go more intense on the eyes or with falsies- it really intensifies the look you’re wearing and stands out! I also love the Dose of Colors formula- they dry to a matte finish, they can be layered even though they are pigmented; and they last for the whole day.
I love wearing Cork alone or pairing it with the Taurus lippie pencil from Colourpop because they are a perfect colour match. The lippie pencil also helps me line my lips more evenly because darker shades are often hard to perfect and create a fuller pout. If you’re looking for a new brown shade, Cork is the one for you!Get it here!
7. Anastasia Beverly Hills: Liquid Lipstick in Stripped ($20 USD)
You already know from last month’s lip favourites that Anastasia Beverly Hills is hands down is one of my favourite cosmetic brands out in the market right now! I pretty much love all of Anastasia Beverly Hills’ product line - especially their highlighters and their liquid lipsticks because they both have such great formulas.
I have been loving all the spring/summer shades that Anastasia Beverly Hills has launched - but the only nude shade I can really wear without having it look too bright on me is Stripped. I love Stripped because it’s more of a muted nude, but it’s still nuder based instead of having more brown in it; so it’s perfect for a light summer look.
I really like Stripped as well because it’s not like Pure Hollywood where it’s too bright and pink based - it has more neutral undertones, it’s much more wearable and it can also be easily mixed with a lip liner!Get it here!
